RIM TECH - THE PROCESS
When a wheel arrives at Rim Tech Noosa any items, such as centre caps, are removed, bagged up and labelled. The wheel is then marked with a job identification number.
The wheel is then fully assessed by our team and a report is written to advise what processes are required to bring the wheel back to a factory finish.
Any issues with wheel straightness are corrected at this time if necessary.
The wheel is then vigorously cleaned to remove surface grime and baked in brake dust.
Depending on the desired finish, some wheels are stripped back to their bare alloy in our strip tanks.
The wheel may require hand sanding to remove any chips or imperfections before going onto the next process.
Depending on the type of finished required, the wheel will then be either sanded, machined or polished.
For machine finished wheels, our CNC lathe will be computer programmed to the contours of the wheel and then precision cut with a diamond tip, for a clean high quality finish.
To recreate the original finish, wheels may require painting and then clear coating or polishing. All our painting is carried out in our large onsite spray booth/oven, we also have infrared spot heaters for further drying options.
Finished wheels always undergo a final quality control check, any issues are rectified before proceeding to the next step.
If the wheel arrived with a tyre, the tyre will be refitted and the wheel rebalanced.
The wheel will then either be refitted to the vehicle, or it will be wrapped and packed and returned to the customer.
